The Maze
Lost within a labyrinth
Of sorrow and dismay
Overwhelmed with burdens
He’d acquired on the way
Never fully sated
By his ever-growing hoard
Suffocating foolishly
Accumulating more
Pressing on relentlessly
His back began to bow
Weary legs betrayed him
And in time began to slow
“Break me if You will”
He cried upon his very knees
“Torture me for evermore
If that is what You please”
Lightning struck about him
And he danced with new repair
Fearing for his very life
He left his burdens there
His mind and body strengthened
For the remnant of his days
And nevermore did he return
To live inside the maze
